WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Making human-animal embryos for scientific experiments should be allowed because of the benefits to science and medicine, British experts said in a report released for Sunday.
Such embryos should never, however, be implanted into either a woman or an animal, said the Academy of Medical Sciences.
The combinations would include animal eggs and the nucleus, containing the genetic material, of a human being, or human embryos that carry the genetic material of an animal, the independent advisory body said.
A cloning technique called somatic cell nuclear transfer, or SCNT for short, involves removing the nucleus from an egg cell and replacing it with the nucleus of a cell from the animal to be cloned -- perhaps a skin cell, for instance.
Scientists have tried this using, for example, an egg cell from a cow and a human nucleus.

Came across this article on the forums and personally the thought of it really manifesting scared me a little. It also reminded me of this series i was reading: Fire Candy.
Humans still dont know enough about our genetic code and yet they want to try these ? Just because it solves one problem doesnt mean that it is justified. The ill-effects and drawbacks would be horrid. And even if they say it's for research, after the fusing of genes, we're still not the same. Whatever research we might get out of it would not be accurate.
Also, as one of the forumers mentioned, what for ? Chimera soldiers ? If so, what difference is there from the Middle Ages where discrimination ran rampant and slaves were all around ?
Really now, just what sort of world are they out to create ? One which brings us a step forth and two backwards ? A quote from Einstein rounds up all i have to say about the issue: It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.

3 points
1. Norton just told me that the pc is down with a Bloodhound virus.
WOW. AFTER I RESTORED IS FOR LESS THAN WHAT ? 2 MONTHS ? Geez. What is wrong with the net nowadays. Sigh.
2. Exams are horrid
I was supposed to be studying for chem yesterday but ended up helping my sister finish up her project that is due today. Yay me.
3. Working Holiday
Singapore, being a state of limited possibilities only gave me 2 choices: UK or NZ. After some random asking online as well as chunks of research on my own, i think i would most likely be trying for the NZ one come next year - provided i get it my way and my parents dont make too bug a fuss of course. Sigh.

update
Hello my lovelies, it's been sometime since i did a decent update on myself. This holidays have been rather occupied with reading some good manga. Hur.
Anyway, as of now, i'm sick.
Talk about bad timing. So yea, because of this, after 2 years of waiting, i need to wait another year before i can go for the Famine camp. Oh well. Am down with a pretty bad case of flu i believe (have yet to see the doctor), feel a lil wobbly, giddy, having a dripping nose and a throat that was better than yesterday - Thank God, yesterday was horrid.
Besides the illness, i guess i'm petty screwed for my midterms. Heh. Been reading, going for coffee and crafting stuff by the tons this hols. Seriously, i dont know what's gotten into me. Never once have i felt so bored by studies. Just finished 2 series and made a rather pretty lil' butterfly pin just now. Downloading hellsing now.
Also, as most of you might know, my darling Dopod - dont EVER consider buying it - died on me. Like dropped dead, blackout, the full works. Causing me to lose whatever contacts i might have. As of now, i have only approximate 50 numbers with me. Talk about limited connectivity. Then, due to an excessive watching of J-drama the first 2 weeks of hols, i've developed a crush on clamshell/flip phones. That explains my DoCoMo post, FOMA phones are soooooooooo pretty. Anyway, before i digress, due to a limited variety of pretty clamshells in Singapore and my reluctance to get a Motorola RAZR, i picked up the SE Z610i in blue. Pardon the bimbon`ness but well, it was the only clamshell that was rather unique.. So there, pretty much all there is to life at the moment.
Oh, and if anyone knows how to get to Chomp Chomp from Bedok, please do tell. (:

Fire Candy
Fire Candy is set in the post-apocalyptic world where many humans found themselves unable to reproduce. Faced with possible extinction, they turn to science for a solution. Genetic engineering combines the genes of humans with the genes of animals, creating a race of half-human, half-animal people who are regarded as a lower species - Halves. Fire Candy is a liquid-form drug which earns its name through its blood red colour and its effect on halves - once it is taken, the clock starts ticking to a fiery, explosive death. This is, consequently, why the halves race so much; they're always together, high on adrenalin and happy, so they'll never have to die sad or alone.

Sex, Juvenile Violence, Drug Abuse, all surrounding a deep story about prejudice and degradation. The story could be marked as a foreshadowing towards the future of our world and the downward-spiral affect that's going on. Lovely art, chilling plot and perhaps something that's disturbingly real especially with Biotechnology on the rise. Realistic, powerful and heart wrenching emotions minus the Naruto sappiness. Themes that are not easy to sallow, but well worth a read.
